One of the Kandyan devil-dancers whose diabolical performance is warranted
to exorcise evil spirits from the sick. Grotesquely arrayed, they dance
themselves into a state of frenzy, by which time the patient is usually
either killed or cured

Padaung domestic architecture has not got beyond the thatched cattle-shed
stage. Furniture is non-existent, and the only valued possessions of the
women are the pounds of brass rings they wear on their legs and arms,
and their extraordinary collars of brass coils with rings behind which
suggest that their wearers may be tied up at night
