ODDS AND ENDS OF EUROPEAN HABILIMENTS ENHANCE THE RHYTHMIC
GESTURES OF THE DANCE
Though many tribes of Liberia's tropic hinterland still remain but little
affected by the culture and economic advancement of the coloured colonists
from the United States who settled the coast, yet these aboriginal
tribes provide a fruitful market for the vender of brightly-coloured
stuffs as well as European hats and boots. The dusky villagers seen
just about to dance have a certain irrepressible gaiety of spirit,
and vivid draperies appeal strongly to their mind. To many, however,
these figures of living bronze appear to more advantage when undraped
save for their native trappings
