The Bantus are highly skilled in the use of home-made but deadly lances, and in dressing for the fray their exaggerated headgear adds height and terror to their appearance | Among the numerous tribes in Liberia the Vai stand out noticeably both by keeping to their native costume which, as can be seen, is a graceful one and in having invented their own system of writing. They form a branch of the Mandingo race |
