Water supply and drainage systems are matters of small concern to the
Oriental. At Bagdad and other riverside towns in Irak the Arabs come
down to the river to fetch water, the men with the goatskins in which
they purvey it in the streets, the women with their ornamental pitchers,
all regardless of the fact that it is contaminated by sewage leaking
down from the towns
