Solidity and stolidity are the main characteristics of the Tibetan,
and these show themselves in the outward appearance of this group.
While they resent the intrusion of foreigners into their fastnesses, they
will, if necessary, receive them as guests with considerable politeness
and even charm of manner. The women hold a singularly advanced position
in this otherwise backward land
