Impressive Setting for the Oberammergau Passion Play

IMPRESSIVE SETTING FOR THE OBERAMMERGAU PASSION PLAY

The Passion Play has been performed at Oberammergau periodically since 1633 in consequence of a vow then taken by the survivors of the pest which had ravaged Germany. For the performance of 1930 a new theatre was constructed with accommodation for an audience of 5,200 under cover, and new scenery and costumes were provided. The photograph shows the theatre during a rehearsal of the Chorus, which has now been re-dressed in classical white draperies and dove-gray tunics in place of the former "stained-glass" reds and blues
