Every child in Holland begins its school life at seven years of age,
when it enters one of the state primary schools. Instruction in these
is strictly secular, but the children's religious education is provided
for in Sunday-schools and in private schools maintained in various
denominational interests, but state-aided and state-supervised

The imposing coronet-shaped headdress and richly-embossed breast buckles
figured conspicuously in the full traditional attire of the Letts,
