The migrations of these wandering giants, the Tehuelches, are difficult
to follow. Among the mountain-passes of the Southern Andes they carry
on a trade in guanaco skins with the white man. Otherwise, they have
little intercourse with their neighbors; but the itinerant trader,
knowing their weakness for the magical fiery draught, haunts their toldos
with business-like pertinacity

Indian-made ponchos of Ecuador are excellent in respect of both material
and manufacture. Those of the finest quality are woven of wool raised
in the highlands round about Quito
